Biography (English)

SUSANNA LA POLLA DE GIOVANNI/SUZ is a singer songwriter and composer born and based in Bologna. She released three albums as a soloist and collaborated with various artists, including Papa Ricky, Ezra Capogna, Riccardo Pedrini (Nabat, Wu Ming). Duccio Lombardi, Thavius Beck (Saul Williams, Nine Inch Nails), KutMasta Kurt (Kool Keith, Beastie Boys), Justin Bennett (Skinny Puppy, Ketvector), Katzuma (Sangue Misto), Bleso Wastasi (Isola Posse, Sud Sound System ), TY1, Dj Pandaj, Luca Faggella, Weight and Treble (Zimmerfrei, Starfuckers), Med’Uza, David Nerattini, Bruno Briscik, Paolo Iocca (Spire, Franklin Delano, Blake E/E/E), Bartolomeo Sailer (Wang Inc, Walking Mountains, White Raven) and Alessio Argenteri (Casino Royale) with whom in 2011 she was asked to score Marina Comandini’s live performance “Sulle tracce dell’arte” at Le Strade del Paesaggio Festival (Cosenza). She served as opening act for numerous artists including Daddy G (Massive Attack), Roni Size, Asian Dub Foundation and Ghostpoet, and played in Italy, Germany, Switzerland, England, Scotland, France, Ukraine, Japan, taking part as a representative of Bologna City of Music UNESCO at the Eat Festival in Leipzig, the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg and the World Music Concert in Hamamatsu. In 2014, together with Valerio Pontrandolfo, Nico Menci, Bruno Briscik and Marco Frattini, she founded a quintet exploring the jazz side of her music sensibility. In 2018 she took part in the A/V workshop held by the director Agnese Mattanò inside the juvenile prison of via del Pratello, Bologna, for the part related to the creation of melodies and lyrics. In 2019, she co-wrote with tunisian producer Obsqure the album “Crossroads” (Springstoff), lent her voice to the song “Soul Collider”, featured in Phoet’s debut album “Broken Symmetry” (Variables Records), and co-produced the A/V live set “Ghigo” together with audio and visual artists Bartolomeo Sailer and Saul Saguatti/Basmati Film. She’s a member of the Donnacirco team, who aims to produce and release a new and up-to date version of the first feminist album ever produced and realized in Italy in 1974. She’s part of the multimedia collective Elettrarchia and half of the artistic duo Katharine Garbo.

Cantautrice di origine bolognese, SUSANNA LA POLLA DE GIOVANNI ha pubblicato tre album come solista sotto lo pseudonimo Suz. Ha collaborato con Papa Ricky, Ezra Capogna, Riccardo Pedrini (Nabat, Wu Ming). Duccio Lombardi, Thavius Beck (Saul Williams, Nine Inch Nails), KutMasta Kurt (Kool Keith, Beastie Boys), Justin Bennett (Skinny Puppy, Ketvector), Katzuma (Sangue Misto), Bleso Wastasi (Isola Posse, Sud Sound System), TY1, Dj Pandaj, Luca Faggella, Weight and Treble, Med’Uza, David Nerattini, Bruno Briscik, Paolo Iocca (Spire, Franklin Delano, Blake E/E/E), Bartolomeo Sailer (Wang Inc, Walking Mountains, White Raven) e non ultimo Alessio Argenteri (Casino Royale) insieme al quale nel 2011 è stata chiamata a sonorizzare la performance di Marina Comandini “Sulle tracce dell’arte” nell’ambito del festival Le Strade del Paesaggio (Cosenza). Nel 2014 insieme a Valerio Pontrandolfo, Nico Menci, Bruno Briscik e Marco Frattini ha fondato un quintetto jazz col quale ha partecipato al festival La Strada del Jazz. Ha aperto i dj set di Daddy G (Massive Attack) e Roni Size ed il live di Asian Dub Foundation al Laboratorio Crash! di Bologna. Ha preso parte come rappresentante di Bologna Città della Musica UNESCO all’Eat Festival di Lipsia, al Reeperbahn Festival di Amburgo e al WMC di Hamamatsu. Nel 2019 ha realizzato insieme al produttore Obsqure l’album “Crossroads” (Springstoff), anticipato da “Brave New World”, brano promosso da un video realizzato dagli studenti dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna sotto la supervisione del DOP Fabrizio La Palombara, e “Land of the Free (A Perfect Place)”, accompagnato da un filmato musicale diretto da Carlotta Piccinini legato alla campagna di crowdfunding di Mediterranea Saving Humans. Insieme a Bartolomeo Sailer e Saul Saguatti di Basmati Film ha ideato e realizzato la performance A/V “Ghigo” presentata alla quarta edizione del festival Here tenutasi nel maggio 2019 negli spazi di Cavallerizza Irreale (Torino). Fa parte della squadra di artiste di Donnacirco, del collettivo multimediale Elettrarchia e del duo artistico Katharine Garbo.
